The 7-Minute Daily Life Review for Men Under Pressure
A simple nightly practice to stop repeating the same reactions, see what happened clearly, and choose responsibility the next time pressure hits.
Who it’s for
Married and partnered men who get defensive, shut down, over-explain, avoid hard conversations, or simply want to lead better at home. Practical training, not therapy.
The five questions
Set a seven-minute timer. One or two honest sentences each. Don’t build a case. Don’t grade yourself.
- 1. What happened?
- 2. What did I feel in my body and emotions?
- 3. What story did I tell myself?
- 4. How did I respond?
- 5. What would responsibility look like next time?
A filled-out review
What happened?
My wife asked if I had called the contractor. I had forgotten. I interrupted her and said I had been busy all day.
Body and emotions
My chest tightened and my face felt hot. I felt embarrassed, then irritated.
The story
I told myself she thinks I never do enough and was looking for another mistake.
My response
I defended myself, listed everything I had done, and walked out before she finished.
Responsibility next time
Pause before answering. Say, ‘I forgot, and I understand why that’s frustrating. I’ll call at nine tomorrow and text you when it’s done.’

- Day 4 — Default move: Defend, shut down, over-explain, fix, avoid, attack, or stay present?
